Up for sale is a rare Meiji Era Japanese bronze. This bronze sculpture/statue features a fierce bird a hawk? Perched on an elaborately designed mountain scape. The details are incredible, with smaller ornaments l, such as flowers, vines, and even a monkey! This belonged to a late relative. We do not know a lot about it, but we see that similar pieces are currently listed for much more.
We don't see any signature on this piece, but perhaps it's blended into the design. The bronze is in overall good condition. Underneath, we see that some of the ornaments have been re-stabilized with better supports over the years.
The tip of one of the wings also appears clipped, but when examined closely, it appears to be part of the design, as the ends match up with the feather patterns. Someone suggested that this piece could have been an incense burner of sorts.
This piece is quite large, measuring. 12 x 16 x 10.75 inches. Please see photos for details and feel free to message with any questions.
